TFB is a private investment office based in London. Our activities comprise secured lending and investing in private companies.
With our roots in UK small cap companies, backing founder-led and family-owned businesses directly, we've broadened into asset-backed and cash flow lending, private equity co-investments and PE funds throughout the UK, Europe and the US.
Approach
We invest across the capital structure, from secured lending through to equity, all from the same balance sheet. With no outside investors behind us, we can pick the route that suits the opportunity rather than a fund mandate.
Most of what we back are established, profitable businesses that need new capital, either to develop the business or to provide liquidity for existing stakeholders. The sectors we know best are travel and business services.
We back profitable founder-led and family-owned businesses through buy-ins, buy-outs and equity release, usually taking a board seat and staying involved through to exit. We also provide secured asset-backed and cash flow loans, structured around what the borrower needs. Lending can be how a relationship starts, leading to an equity position later through a hybrid structure or a follow-on investment.

We invest alongside established PE sponsors and specialist lending platforms, giving us exposure to larger businesses and loans than we would underwrite on our own.

We are limited partners in funds run by specialist PE managers and lenders, which can also open up co-investment and secondary opportunities.

We don't have to sell on a fund's timetable, so management teams aren't pushed towards an exit before the business is ready.
Peter and Nigel have both built businesses of their own, so alongside capital we bring the practical experience and contacts that come from having done it ourselves.
We invest across the capital structure, so we can shape a deal around what the business needs rather than fit it to a single product.
When a deal is bigger than we would take alone, we bring in co-investors and partners we've worked with over many years.
Background
Peter and Nigel's friendship goes back 40 years to their school and university days. After both qualifying and practising as solicitors, they went their separate ways, Peter into building an online travel business and Nigel into M&A advisory and private equity.
They set up TFB together in 2019, combining Peter's experience of building and scaling businesses with Nigel's of structuring and financing deals.

Director
Peter founded Totalstay Group, a B2B hotel accommodation wholesaler, in 1999. He continued in senior leadership positions after its sale to Vitruvian-backed JacTravel in 2015 and JacTravel's subsequent sale to ASX-listed WebBeds in 2017, where he was also involved in WebBeds' acquisition of Destinations of the World (DOTW).
Peter is a Director of TFB and Bayleaf Facilities Management, and Chairman of KF Beauty.

Nigel read for a Masters in Finance at London Business School before spending two years in Corporate Finance at Paribas. He co-founded New World Corporate Finance in 2000 and New World Private Equity Partners in 2005, both focussed on the UK SME market, where he led 40+ M&A transactions and PE investments.
Nigel is a Director of TFB and a non-executive Director of Bayleaf Facilities Management and KF Beauty. He also sits on the investment committee of Coniston Capital.

Jamie works across TFB's investments, with a focus on travel technology. He spent two years at Evercore in London across Financial Sponsors and Generalist M&A, covering travel, leisure and technology. He read History at the University of Exeter and is completing an MBA at UC Berkeley Haas.
